The 2006 American Composers Updateas published in PAN PIPES, Volume 98, Number 2 Adrian Mann Adrian Mann’s Canzone Vecchione is a new six-minute work for oboe/English horn and bass. It was premiered June 7, 2005, by Carrie Vecchione and Rolf Erdahl (who commissioned the work) at the 2005 Convention of the International Society of Bassists in Kalamazoo, MI. The husband-and-wife team scheduled several other performances of the commissioned composition throughout fall 2005. All of Adrian Mann’s works, both compositions and arrangements, are now available from Basso Music Publications. For a complete listing visit www.bassomusic.com. Premieres Five arrangements for bass ensemble were introduced at the International Society of Bassists Convention in Kalamazoo, MI, on June 8, 2005: “Marcia” from Serenade (Dohnányi), Lo How a Rose E’er Blooming (Brahms), Schön Rosmarin (Kreisler), Before Thy Throne I Stand (Bach), and “Triumphal March” from Aïda (Verdi). The arrangements were performed by members of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Bass section under the direction of the composer. The Harmonious Blacksmith (Handel, arr.), Vocalise (Rachmaninov, arr.), and Quartet for Rigoletto (Verdi, arr.) will be presented by members of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Cello section on a Freimann Series Concert in February, 2006. Performances Lightsongs, a Chanukah medley for soloists, chorus, and orchestra, was performed by the Fort Wayne (IN) Philharmonic, in December 2004.
