The 2006 American Composers Updateas published in PAN PIPES, Volume 98, Number 2 Alice A. Moerk* Alice Moerk recently received honorable mentions for two of her works: String Quartet, in the IMRO Competition, Aberdeen, Scotland, and Songs of the Middle Ages, Arklbur Music Festival, Ireland. Premieres The piano solo Peninsula was premiered by the composer on January 20, 2005, at a meeting of the Sarasota (FL) Music Club; the piano solo Iron Butt was premiered by Mary Webb at the same meeting. A reading of the musical West Virginia Mother Goose took place on April 23, at Fairmont (WV) State University. Several pieces were introduced on October 8 at a meeting of the Sarasota-Manatee Alumnae: Vistas, premiered by the composer; Sky Dreams for flute and piano, premiered by Estelle Schultz and Mary Webb; and I Am, a song cycle premiered by mezzo-soprano Martha DiPalma, accompanied by the composer. Performances The Christmas song Little Babe received several performances in Florida through the Christmas 2005 season. Several of the composer’s organ works were presented throughout the year by Carolyn Wallace, St. Paul Methodist Church, Staunton, VA. Franklyn Skidmore perfomed Songs at the Sarasota (FL) Women’s Forum. Muse was presented by flutist Estelle Schultz, and Sky Dreams was presented by Schultz and pianist Mary Webb for the January 20, 2006 meeting of the Sarasota (FL) Music Club. *Sigma Alpha Iota Member Further Information |
