Brian Fennelly

Professor Emeritus in the School of Arts and Science at New York University, Brian Fennelly continues on music panels for the Fulbright Awards and Co-Director of the Washington Square Contemporary Music Society, now in its 29th season of presenting concerts of new music in New York City (www.wscms.org).

Premieres

The west coast premiere of Sukhi! was given by the Sounds New ensemble in Kensington, CA, on March 13, 2005. Cellist Chris Finckel will perform the solo cello version of Sigol Musings (2005) at Merkin Hall, New York, NY, on April 3, 2006.

Performances

The New York Consort of Viols gave an additional performance of Tombeau and Tango at Christ and St. Stephen’s Church in New York, NY, on April 17, 2005. On December 7, Boston group Alea III performed Corollary IV at Boston (MA) University.

Publications

String Quartet No. 3 (Sigol: Thirty Flowers), written for the Pro Arte Quartet, and Sigol Musings (version for solo cello); by American Composers Edition (ACA). (This completes the Sigol series dedicated to the composer’s granddaughter Sigol Sara Fennelly; the series also includes the solo violin version of Sigol Musings.) ThingamaBob, version for brass quintet (Empire Brass); also by American Composers Edition. The revised computer-copied original version of Empirical Rag, (Empire Brass); Earnestly Music/Frank Warren Music Service.

Recordings

The ensemble “counter)induction” has recorded Canzona and Dance for clarinet, violin, viola, cello, and piano for future CD release on Albany Records. Additionally, the pianist of the group, Blair McMillen, has recorded a group of piano pieces for the same release.
