The 2006 American Composers Updateas published in PAN PIPES, Volume 98, Number 2 Donald O. Johnston Donald Johnston has been elected to continue serving as president and editor of Ars Nova Press, which has received nonprofit status from the IRS. The composer members continue to increase in number, as do the number of publications available. Currently the organization has approximately 100 compositions under contract. Ars Nova Press is concerned with the publication and preservation of fine music that has gone out-of-print or never found acceptance by commercial publishers. It serves as an archive of compositions for future generations, preserving and making available to the public the finest traditions of our musical culture. Performances Christmas Processional for choir, brass, bells, and organ was first heard December 24, 2004, in a performance by the Missoula, (MT) First Presbyterian Church Choir, Brass Choir, Handbell Choir, and organ, conducted by Susan Emrick, who also led the choir in Music for Easter Service for choir, brass, organ, and congregation on March 27, 2005. Aspect III from Time and Space Studies (Symphony No. 5) was heard on October 28 in a concert by the Northwest Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Anthony Spain. Further Information |
