The 2006 American Composers Updateas published in PAN PIPES, Volume 98, Number 2 Elizabeth Ruth Beeson* With Elizabeth Beeson (director and founder of the Beeson School of Music), students from her school performed at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, First Baptist Church, the Vosswood Nursing Center, Park Shadows Retirement Community, and Treemont Retirement Home, all in Houston, TX. These programs included piano, choir, and musical drama performances. During the year Beeson taught a sacred music/opera music workshop, a college music preparatory program, a music appreciation class, a piano workshop, a choral workshop, a music history course, and a music education course, all in Houston area churches and schools. Two of her students received awards for writing their own music curricula. From February to June, Beeson gave a series of solo piano concerts in Houston. Her work as an accompanist included performances at St. Joseph’s Hospital, the Villa de Matel Convent, St. Pius X High School, First Baptist Academy, Terrace United Methodist Church, and other locations in and out of the Houston area. She was a judge for competing piano students from Houston Christian High School and also played keyboard with a contemporary Christian band. Performances On February 2, 2005, the composer performed several piano compositions at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church in Houston, including Song of the Bell, Jazzy Tap, The Bulgarian Valley Dance, Russian Medley, and The New Birth. *Sigma Alpha Iota Member Further Information |
