Jackson Hill

Jackson Hill is Professor of Music at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA. He served as a guest composer at the Conductors’ Institute at Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ, in July 2005. Premieres of Hill’s Symphony No. 2 and Symphony No. 3 are planned in connection with his retirement from teaching at Bucknell University. The London-based vocal ensemble The King’s Singers have been touring Hill’s Remembered love, unforgotten dreams internationally during 2005. Chanticleer performs Voices of Autumn and In Winter’s Keeping frequently in its international tours.

Premieres

The King’s Singers gave the European premiere of the a cappella work Remembered love, unforgotten dreams on July 24, 2005, at the Schleswig-Holstein Festival, in Elmshorn, Germany; the work was previously performed by The King’s Singers during the Ottowa (Canada) Chamber Music Festival which was broadcast on CBC National Canadian Radio on June 9. Symphony No. 2 and Symphony No. 3 received their premieres January 28, 2006, in a concert by the Kushell Sinfonia, under the direction of Christopher Para, Bucknell University. Threnody for horn and string quartet was introduced February 6, by William Kenny and the Fitzwilliam String Quartet (U.K.), at Bucknell University.

Performances

Voices of Autumn and In Winter’s Keeping, for mixed voices, were given numerous performances by the vocal ensemble Chanticleer in 2005, including a November tour of Japan. The New Age for chorus and concert band was presented March 13 by the Kent State (OH) University Chorus and Concert Band, directed by C. M. Shearer. Tango no Tango received five performances in Italy during 2004-2005 from pianist Carlo Palese. When Spring Is Born At Last for mixed voices was heard in performance February 12 by the Woodley Ensemble, under the direction of Frank Albinder, Washington, DC; and April 10, by the Westminster Williamson Voices, led by James Jorden, Bristol Chapel, Princeton, NJ.
