The 2006 American Composers Updateas published in PAN PIPES, Volume 98, Number 2 Jeffrey Hoover Jeffrey Hoover collaborated during summer 2005 via the internet, with Accessible Contemporary Music in Chicago, directed by Seth Boustead. The resulting composition, Dancing in the Park, evolved in weekly installments. The work is scored for flute/piccolo, soprano saxophone, alto saxophone, percussion, piano, violin, viola, and cello. Hoover composed and sent the music via the internet, and then ACM rehearsed and recorded the music. The composition evolved in response to these recordings and comments from the musicians. ACM posted the recordings on its website, so that interested people could follow the evolution of the music from its genesis to completion; comments by the composer and the musicians were also posted. Dancing in the Park was premiered in Chicago on November 12, 2005. An orchestral version, with expanded instrumentation, is planned Premieres Mysteries for clarinet and CD was presented by Michael Dean on his Southern California tour during November 2005; this is the premiere of the clarinet version of this work, which was initially written for soprano saxophone. Performances Sacred Stones for alto saxophone (with extended techniques) and piano was performed September 22-24, 2005, by saxophonist Amos Gillespie and pianist Irina Feoktistova in Chicago (IL) as part of the Chicago Park District public concert series “Fresh Ink;” venues included Hamilton Park, Eugene Field Park, and Humbolt Park.
