The 2006 American Composers Updateas published in PAN PIPES, Volume 98, Number 2 Michael G. Cunningham Composer Michael G. Cunningham, who continues in residence at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, announces the following new worksString Quartet No.7, Shakespeare Sonnets Set 10 for voice and piano, and six works for concert bandLandscape and Sunburst, Processional Music (Clementi), Armored Division March, Schumaniana (four movements), Young Debussy (three movements), and The Triumph of Chopin (Chopin Op. 49). Premieres Man About Town for six clarinets, rhythmic section, and sine-wave mix was first heard October 24, 2004, in a performance by a student ensemble conducted by Andrei Strizek, University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Annie Bailey and Solaire Finkenstaedt-Quinn premiered They Feared Him for soprano and harp on March 25, 2005, at the First Congregational Church of Eau Claire, WI. Strizek conducted the Phi Mu Alpha ensemble in the premiere of Three Valentines (from 1959) on April 13, 2005, University of Wisconsin-au Claire; at the same concert the Phi Mu Alpha ensemble also introduced Septet, conducted by Adam Boll. Silhouettes, nine pieces for orchestra, premiered April 24 in a University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire campus performance conducted by Nobu Yasada. Pianist Namji Kim presented Arensky Valse, arranged for concert band and piano, in an October 16 performance that was conducted by Phillip Ostrander, University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
