Mollie O’Meara

Mollie O’Meara was a guest speaker and panelist for the Albuquerque Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota’s “Meet the Composer” program, November 20, 2005, Robertson Recital Hall, Albuquerque, NM. In February 2006, O’Meara will present a composition for the chapter’s annual American Music program. A website for the composer, currently under construction, will include a biography, catalogue of works, and soundbytes of compositions; the website anticipates being online in spring 2006, at www.mollieomeara.com.

Performances

“Make My Life a Prayer” from Three Epiphanies was performed October 31, 2004, by soprano Katherine Price, accompanied by the composer, Paradise Hills (NM) United Methodist Church (UMC). A piano arrangement of the composer’s communion anthem The Holy Feast was presented by the composer on November 7, Paradise Hills UMC. Mantras for string quartet received several performances during spring 2005 by the Magnolia Quartet in school presentations in New Orleans, LA. The Passion Story, a Passion and Easter cantata, was heard March 25 and 27 in a presentation by the Paradise Hills UMC Chancel Choir, under the direction of Roselie Johnston, with the composer at the organ. Lullaby for Olivia, originally scored for viola and cello, was presented as a piano solo by the composer on May 8, Paradise Hills UMC. A new arrangement of Whirlwind, originally scored for soprano, oboe, and electronic tape, was created June 18 during a “Women and Creativity” class at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque; Roselie Johnston led a committee, whose focus was women and music, in re-arranging the piece for flute, Indian flute, viola, and speaking voice.
