The 2006 American Composers Updateas published in PAN PIPES, Volume 98, Number 2 Robert Washburn continues to serve as Dean Emeritus and Senior Fellow in Music at the Crane School of Music of the State University of New York at Potsdam, where he teaches part-time and accepts various off-campus engagements. He was recently honored on a broadcast on North Country Public Radio of St. Lawrence University, which featured recordings of his music for the 1980 Winter Olympics twenty-fifth anniversary as well as a personal interview. Onondaga Overture, an orchestral work commissioned by the Fayetteville-Manlius (Syracuse, NY) Educational Foundation, will be published by Ars Nova Music Press. Ars Nova also plans to publish other orchestral works by Washburn. The composer recently acquired a website: www2.potsdam.edu/washburb/ PerformancesHymn of Thanks was presented by the Toronto, Ontario Male Chorus Association during April 2005 for the annual Men in Praise Festival, featuring Choraliers, Collegium Musicum, and the York Police Male Chorus. Now Welcome Summer was heard in performance in May 2005 at the College of St.Benedict/St. John’s University. Commencement exercises for SUNY-Potsdam included the work Ceremonial Music, as performed by the SUNY-Potsdam Wind Ensemble. The Manchester (NH) Youth Orchestra performed Queen Noor Suite for string orchestra, while Suite for Strings was heard in August at the Western Reserve Academy, Hudson, OH. Adirondack Sketches was performed for the Lake Placid Sinfonietta Summer Symphony Series.
