The 2007 American Composers Updateas published in PAN PIPES, Volume 99, Number 2 Allen Brings Premieres The composer premiered Three Studies for piano, left-hand, on September 28, 2005 in Flushing, NY, and subsequently performed the works in Flushing on October 1, 2006, as well as in Hamden, CT, on May 21, 2006. A student ensemble conducted by David Zych introduced Introduction and Roundelay for string orchestra, at Queens College (CUNY) on February 8, 2006. Antitheses for saxophone, guitar, piano, and percussion, was first heard in a March 18 performance by Flexible Music, in New York, NY. The first movement of Sonata breve was performed March 23 by Duo46 in New Haven, CT. Soprano Jennifer Foster, with the composer at the piano, presented Five Poems of Gerard Manley Hopkins on May 1 in Flushing, NY and again on May 21 in Hamden, CT. Performances Deborah Wong and Adam Grabois performed Duologue 8, for viola and cello, on March 13, 2006, in New York City, and the duo Avendo (Mary Harris and Cora Kuyvenhoven) performed the piece on March 24 at Denison University, Granville, OH. Publications Sonata breve, violin and guitar; Three Episodes, woodwind quartet; In memoriam, string orchestra and alto soloist; Four by Donne, three-and four-part chorus a capella; all by Mira Music Associates. Recordings Duos, Duologues, and a Duette by Allen Brings, released by Capstone Records, contains Duo for cello and piano; Duo for clarinet and piano; Duologue, for oboe and clarinet; Duologue 2, for flute and oboe; Duologue 5, for clarinet and cello; Duologue 7, for violin and piano; Duologue 8, for viola and cello; and Duette, for flute and piano, as performed by violinist Daniel Phillips, violist Deborah Wong, cellists Adam Grabois and Garfield Moore, flutist Lisa Hansen, oboists Gary Hamme and Matt Sullivan, clarinetists Edward Gilmore and Esther Lamneck, and pianists Allen Brings, Judith Olson, Morey Ritt, and Stephanie Watt.
