The 2007 American Composers Updateas published in PAN PIPES, Volume 99, Number 2 Augusta Cecconi-Bates* The composer writes: “Most of the year was spent in the re-write and production of Molly Brant. But I did manage to attend several conferences. I was a frequent panelist in discussions of new music and the state of orchestras in education.” A new work for saxophone and concert band has been scheduled to premiere in Chicago, IL with saxophonist Dale Underwood, for whom the piece was composed. The Testimony of Joseph Smith, a composition for tenor soloist, two baritone soloists, SATB, and piano, has been set as a staged oratorio for production in the near future. Premieres A revised two-act version of Molly Brant, using a script by Joan Sutherland, premiered in Kingston, Ontario, with a new role, ‘William Johnson,’ created expressly for young Canadian baritone, Matthew Zadow. The production was performed three nights in Kingston in June 2006 and then again on tour in the United States at the Lake Ontario Playhouse in Sackets Harbor, NY, in a production directed by James Coles of Kingston.
