The 2007 American Composers Updateas published in PAN PIPES, Volume 99, Number 2 Dinos Constantinides Dinos Constantinides is currently serving as the Music Director of the Louisiana Sinfonietta in Baton Rouge. His Concerto No. 2 (Grecian Variations) for saxophone and strings - which was written for and premiered by Greek saxophonist Stathis Mavrommatis - was recently broadcast by the Radio of Athens-Greece. He also attended the recording of Celestial Symphony No. 6 in Nürnburg, Germany, where the orchestra also recorded three saxophone concertos with Theodore Kerzekos as soloist. Greek-Polish flutist Iwona Glinka commissioned a solo flute piece, which was premiered in Madison, WI, April 22, 2006. He also received commissions for a piece for saxophone and piano, for a Greek recording session, and a work for saxophone and organ, by Athanasios Zervas. Premieres The Louisiana Sinfonietta and the Norem Brass Quintet presented Concerto for Brass Quintet and Orchestra (New Orleans Divertimento) on May 7, 2006, in a performance dedicated to New Orleans in remembrance of the destruction caused during the recent hurricane. On June 22, 2006, saxophonist Kerkezos premiered the Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Orchestra No. 3 with the Brasov State Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of Julian Rusu, in Brasov, Romania. The Louisiana Sinfonietta presented the premiere performance of Celestial Symphony No. 6 on September 10, under the direction of the composer, in Baton Rouge, LA. Performances The State Orchestra of Athens, under the direction of Byron Fidetzis, performed the Second Symphony in Athens, Greece on May 5, 2006. Also in May, violinists Borislava Iltcheva and Aaron Farrell presented a series of concerts in Greece (Athens, Thessaloniki, Lamia) featuring the works of the composer. Under the direction of the composer, the Louisiana Sinfonietta gave ten concerts at Baton Rouge libraries, which included two of his works. Greek saxophonist Athanasios Zervas performed his music in five American cities and numerous times in Greece. Violinist Simos Papanas and the Symphony Orchestra of Thessaloniki presented Concerto for Violin and Orchestra. Impressions II for saxophone and piano was heard at the SCI National Conference, while Rhapsody II for flute and harp was heard at The College Music Society National Convention, both in San Antonio, TX.
