The 2007 American Composers Updateas published in PAN PIPES, Volume 99, Number 2 Doris Gazda* n 2006, Doris Gazda was appointed the new educational string consultant for Carl Fischer Music of New York. A graduate of Eastman School of Music and Penn State University, she taught for many years as a string specialist in the public school system in Montgomery County, MD. Most recently, she was Faculty Associate at Arizona State University where she taught string methods. She has served nationally as Secretary for the American String Teachers Association, President of the National School Orchestra Association, and she has played violin professionally with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and as a freelance musician in Washington, DC. Gazda will be responsible for the creation of new educational string publications and repertoire. She is the author of String Town Tunes and More String Town Tunes, collections of concert pieces for teaching beginning strings and developing string orchestras, High Tech for Strings, a technique book for middle and high school orchestras and co-author of Fiddling Fingers, an instruction manual for beginning fiddling lessons, all of which are published by Carl Fischer Music. Her numerous, published string orchestra pieces have become favorites with both students and orchestra directors, and are standard repertoire for school orchestras.
