The 2007 American Composers Updateas published in PAN PIPES, Volume 99, Number 2 Elizabeth R. Austin* Elizabeth Austin’s When the Song of the Angels is Stilled, for SATB a capella chorus, was introduced in December 2005 in a performance by the Coro Da Camera “Goffredo Petrassi” di Roma, under the direction Stefano Cucci. The work, commissioned by the Fondazione Adkins Chiti: Donne in Musica, features a text based on a poem by Howard Thurman. Performances Elegy, for piano duet, was heard May 21, 2006, at a meeting of the Connecticut Composers, Inc., in Hamden, CT. Karl Kramer conducted a performance of Wie Eine Blume: Roses and Orch-ideas, for chamber ensemble and reciter, on June 9 at a meeting of the American Composers Alliance, in New York City. Sonnets from the Portuguese was presented by soprano Linda McNeil and pianist Carolyn True on September 12, at Trinity University, and again on September 14, for the Society of Composers, Inc. (SCI) National Conference, both in San Antonio, TX. Pianist Jerome Reed performed An American Triptych on October 21 for the Bowling Green (OH) New Music Festival.
