The 2007 American Composers Updateas published in PAN PIPES, Volume 99, Number 2 Jeremy Beck ** As the result of winning a recent Iowa Composers Forum competition for a new commission, Jeremy Beck has composed Concertino for two cellos and string orchestra, to be premiered in Cedar Rapids, IA, in May 2007. Gramophone Magazine (June 2006) included both of Beck’s new CDs of chamber music, pause and feel and hark as well as his 2004 Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra CD (Wave, also on the innova label) on its list of “The Best New Recordings from North America,” stating “Jeremy Beck is Exhibit A in classical music’s defense against the charge of being out of touch.” Beck published an article titled “Music Composition, Sound Recordings and Digital Sampling in the 21st Century: A Legislative and Legal Framework to Balance Competing Interests,” in Volume 13/1 UCLA Entertainment Law Journal (Fall 2005), for which he was awarded Second Prize by The Santa Clara Computer & High Technology Law Journal 2005 Comment Contest.
