Premieres

Eternal Vigilance (The Long, Brave Line), the result of a collaborative commission from the four United States service academy bands, was introduced in 2006: September 29, U.S. Naval Academy Band, led by Melvin Kessler, Annapolis, MD; October, U.S. Air Force Academy Band, conducted by Stephen Grimo, during a tour of New Mexico and Texas; October 19, U.S. Military Academy Band, under the direction of Timothy Holtan, at the Montana Music Educators Association Convention in Missoula; and November 5, U.S. Coast Guard Band, led by Kenneth Megan, at the Coast Guard Academy in Rhode Island. Libera Me was first heard in a November 19 performance by the Purdue University Symphonic Band, under the direction of Jay S. Gephart, West Lafayette, IN.

Performances

The University of Texas at Tyler Symphonic Band, led by Jeffrey Emge, performed Variations On A Theme By Robert Schumann on April 27, 2006. Abel Cortinas directed the St. Mary’s University Brass Choir in a performance of Chorale and Fugue on May 4 in San Antonio, TX. Three Chinese Miniatures was heard in a June 8 concert by the International Honor Band, under the direction of Neal Yocom, in Beijing, China..
