Samuel Magrill***

Samuel Magrill is Assistant Director,Professor of Music and Composer-in-Residence of the School of Music at the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) in Edmond. In the summer of 2006 he received a UCO Faculty Merit Credit Award for service (hosting the Society of Composers, Inc. 2004 National Meeting at UCO). In fall 2006, he received his 19th consecutive ASCAP Award. Allof Samuel Magrill’s works are available through Lynn Morse Publishing, 1725 Westwood Lane, Edmond, OK 73013.

Premieres

Tango Cellito, in string quartet version, was introduced by violinists Nathan Greenwood and Chin Wa Mong, violist Melissa Schidler, and cellist Adam Lock, UCO

Performances

Four of the composer’s works were featured on a November 3, 2005, Composers Forum at the University of Oklahoma School of Music in Norman, OK: Three Poems of Wallace Stevens, by soprano Pamela Richman accompanied by the composer; “Tess” Variations, by cellist Tess Remy-Schumacher (performed again by the cellist on September 14, 2006 at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, TX as part of the Society of Composers, Inc. National Conference); Sacred Suite, by soprano Richman and cellist Remy-Schumacher (previously presented by the duo on October 5 on a concert for the victims of Hurricane Katrina at the University of Central Oklahoma); and Hommage à Brahms, for clarinet, cello, and piano, by Ron Howell, Remy-Schumacher, and the composer (which also received performances from clarinetist Bryan Conger, cellist Nelly Rocha, and pianist Chien-Jung Chen on February 11, 2006, at a Society of Composers Region VI Conference at Rice University and February 27 at an AURA Concert at the Moores Opera House, both in Houston, TX). Odyssey Etude was performed November 17 by flutist Camilla Hoitenga, accompanied by the composer at the piano, on a guest artist recital at UCO. Baritone Ian Geller, accompanied by the composer at the piano, presented Whitman Songs on a guest artist recital at UCO. Vignettes, eight pieces for soprano and piano (after Donald E. Hines) was performed by Pamela Richman and the composer at various venues in Oklahoma City and March 11, 2006 on a Modern Music Concert as part of the College Music Society South Central Region Conference at Texas State University, San Marcos, TX. Cellist Daniela Grams and guiarist Stefan Grasse presented Tango Guitello June 23 at Museum Tucherschloss, Hirsvogelsaal in Nürnberg, Germany, and again July 21 at St. Barbara Catholic Church in Munich, Germany.
