William Harbison

William Harbison’s The Maestro’s Flourish, for brass and percussion, was named one of six winners of the Dallas (TX) Wind Symphony Fanfare Competition in 2005. All the Starry Band, for concert band, received a 2005 Editors’ Choice Award from J.W. Pepper Band & Orchestra Catalog, 2005; it was also awarded the Hinda Honigman Cup from the North Carolina Federation of Music Clubs. The cup identifies the best music composition in any category published during the last three years by a North Carolina composer.

Premieres

The Dallas (TX) Wind Symphony introduced The Maestro’s Flourish for brass and percussion, on November 15, 2005.

Performances

The concert band work All the Starry Band was presented November 13, 2005, at the state conference of the North Carolina Music Educators. Faculty organist Joby Bell performed Jubiloso on March 5, 2006, at Appalachian State University. Roses, for tenor and piano, was presented on March 7 by Appalachian State University faculty vocalist Randall Outland.
