On Nov. 17, 1997, the New York (NY) Chamber Symphony, under Gerard Schwarz, premiered Overture Brevis (1997) at Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center. Chicago Symphony Orchestra trombonist Charles Vernon and pianist Katherine Palmer introduced Divertimento (1997), at the Brevard (NC) Music Center 1997 Summer Festival, July 3, 1997.

In 1997 David Kirby played Stewart's Clarinet Concerto (1994), arranged for clarinet, piano, and percussion, with Palmer and Dianne Cash, at the Brevard Music Center (July 10), and at Isothermal Junior College, Tryon, NC (Oct. 3).
