Annual American Composers Update
Kent Kennan
Kent Kennan resides in Austin, TX, where he is retired
from the University of Texas at Austin. On Sept. 19-20,
1997, his transcription for clarinet and orchestra of
Prokofieff's
Sonata, Op. 94 was performed by Richard
Stoltzman and the Austin Symphony under Jacques Lacombe.
He is working on the fourth edition of
Counterpoint
and a revised
Counterpoint Workbook, to be published
by Prentice Hall in 1999.
Performances
Among
Night Soliloquy's many performances are three
by Toshiko Kohno, flute, and the National Symphony, under
Leonard Slatkin, in Washington, DC, Dec. 13, 14, and 17,
1996. Organist Mark J. Arcemont played
Variations on
a Quiet Theme in Shreveport, LA, Mar. 1, 1997. Kennan's
trumpet/wind ensemble transcription of his
Sonata for
Trumpet and Piano was presented by John Hagstrom and
the Eastman School Wind Ensemble, led by Donald Hunsberger,
Mar. 5, 1997. On Mar. 8, 1997, an Albuquerque, NM program
included
Threnody and
Dance to an Ostinato,
with Karl Kraber, flute, and Gregory Allen, piano.
