Annual American Composers Update

Leslie Bassett

Leslie Bassett lives in Ann Arbor, MI, where he is the Albert A. Stanley Distinguished University Professor Emeritus of Music at the University of Michigan. On November 4-6, 1996, he was guest composer for the Rocky Mountain Contemporary Music Festival, where he heard 13 of his works performed.

Premieres

Lan Shuie conducted the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in the first performances of Thoughts that Sing, Breathe and Burn, February 27-28 and March 1, 1997.

Performances

On June 9, 1997, the Moravian Filharmonic Orchestra, under Vit Mitka, played Thoughts that Sing, Breathe and Burn in Olomouc, The Czech Republic. The U. S. Information Agency's Artistic Ambassadors Programs, May-June 1997, in Nepal, Pakistan, and Jordan, included Dialogues for Oboe and Piano, with Mark Weiger and Rob Conway. Gustav Meier led the Lansing Symphony Orchestra in From a Source Evolving, April 19, 1997. The University of Chicago Contemporary Music Ensemble presented Nonet, May 3, 1997.
