Annual American Composers Update
Marilyn J. Ziffrin
SAI member Marilyn J. Ziffrin lives and works at home
in a small New Hampshire village. She was chosen as the
1997 Composer of the Year by the New Hampshire Music Teachers
Association and was awarded a grant for a new composition.
Premieres
On Apr. 20, 1997,
Cliches, commissioned by the
Illinois Wesleyan University Collegiate Choir, J. Scott
Ferguson, director, was presented by the choir in Bloomington,
IL.
Performances
Mezzo-soprano D'Anna Fortunato and pianist Donald Berman
performed "I Thrive on Youth and Joy," from
Three Songs
of the Trobairitz, at a Boston Aria Guild Concert,
held at the Tsai Performance Center, Boston, MA, Feb.
23, 1997. The entire work was heard at St. Olaf College,
Northfield, MN, with Heather Beggs and Jeff Patry, Apr.
6, 1997. On Apr. 13, 1997, organist Jane Ann McSwiney
played
Toccata and Fugue for Organ at the New London
(NH) Baptist Church. A North/South Consonance Series concert
included
Trio for Clarinet, Bassoon, and Piano,
with Paul Gallo, Gilbert Dejean, and Max Lifchitz, at
Christ & St. Stephens Church, New York, NY, June 3, 1997.
The piano duet
Yankee Hooray was presented by Janet
Wells and Wayman Chin at the Yellow Barn Music Festival,
Putney, VT, July 4, 1997.
