Robert Starer
Robert Starer has won the National Federation
of Music Club's Presidential Citation "in recognition
and sincere appreciation of his contribution to the
world of music as a composer, master teacher, performer,
and lecturer . . . indelible and remarkable impact on
the cultural aspects of music in the United States and
the world at large." Published by the
Overlook
Press, his book of fiction,
The Music Teacher,
has had its first chapter excerpted by
Keyboard Companion.
Premieres
Duo Vivace and the Hudson Valley Philharmonic
Orchestra, under JoAnn Falletta, introduced Concerto
for Piano Four-Hands and Orchestra, July 26, 1997.
On Nov. 17, 1997 in Washington, DC, a Holocaust Museum
program included the first performance of Song of
Solitude, for unaccompanied cello. Pianists Edgar
and Adelaide Roberts presented Starer's Suite of
Piano Duets, May 17, 1997, at the Juilliard School
of Music. Three Gregorian Preludes, for organ,
premiered Oct. 21, 1997.
Performances
On Apr. 12, 1997, the Mendelssohn Choir
of Philadelphia sang Ariel, Visions of Isaiah.
There have been many performances of Twilight Fantasies,
Elegy for a Woman who Died too Young, and Proverbs
for a Son. Prior to the premiere of Concerto
for Piano Four-Hands, 26 students ages 6 to 16 played
piano pieces including Sketches in Color and
At Home Alone.
