Annual American Composers Update
Shirley W. McRae
Shirley W. McRae serves as Professor of Music at the University
of Memphis. Her commissioned hymn tune,
New Life,
will appear in the
Episcopal Church Hymnal Supplement,
currently in press. In 1997 McRae's performed arrangements
included
Gospel Train, with the Oklahoma Music
Education Association All State Choir, led by Sandra Snow
Murphy, in Tulsa (Jan. 24); and
Boysie, with the
Elementary Festival Chorus, Las Vegas, NV (Apr.).
Performances
On June 20, 1997, the Greater Cincinnati Children's Choir
and Festival Chorus, conducted by the composer, sang
Sourwood
Mountain in Cincinnati. A Savannah (GA) School District
concert featured
Viva la Musica, Mar. 4, 1997.
Works heard at a Music Academy Chorus concert, conducted
by Susan Van Dyck, at Rhodes College, Memphis were
Sourwood
Mountain and
Carol of Creation, May 16, 1997.
