Alan Shulman
Alan Shulman resides in a nursing home
in Kingston, NY. In 1999,
Parnassus
Records will reissue on CD recordings made during
the 1940's and 1950's by the Stuyvesant String Quartet,
of which Shulman was the cellist, playing quartets by
Hindemith, Villa-Lobos, Quincy Porter, and Malipiero.
The Los Angeles Cello Quartet played Shulman's transcription
of the Bach
Aria from Organ Pastorale in F, Feb.
22, 1998 in Santa Monica, CA.
Performances
Threnody was performed by the
Vermeer Quartet, Mar. 30, 1998 at Northern Illinois
University, in DeKalb. In 1998, Theme and Variations
was heard in its version for viola and piano with Kirsten
Johnson, in Burlingame, CA (Mar. 16), and with Raymond
Punch, in Dallas, TX (May 9); and in its version for
viola and orchestra with Ellen Rose and the Dallas Symphony
Orchestra, under Bernhard Klee (Nov. 5-7). The Hudson
Valley Philharmonic String Quartet presented Four
Moods, Apr. 7, 1998 at SUNY College at New Paltz.
