Annual American Composers Update
Dennis Kam
Dennis Kam, of Miami, FL, chairs the Music Theory and
Composition department at the University of Miami School
of Music. During Jan. 1998, as Artist-in-Residence in
the Seaside (FL) Institute's "Escape to Create" program,
he worked on several pieces, including
String Quartet
No. 3, gave a lecture for the community, and was interviewed
on the radio and by regional newspapers.
Premieres
Bill Walach and Garry Buttery presented
Preludes, Puzzles,
and Postlude, for mandolin and tuba, at Palm Beach
(FL) Community Coll., Mar. 4, 1998. Conducted by the composer,
Jay Brown and the South Florida Youth Symphony introduced
Concerto for Glasses and Orchestra at the University
of Miami, May 30, 1998. The University of Miami's Festival
Miami included the premiere of
String Quartet No. 3,
with the Bergonzi String Quartet, Sept. 28, 1998.
Performances
Amy Tarantino played
5 Preludes, for piano, at
a College Music Society Southern Chapter Conference, Feb.
27, 1998 at the State University of West Georgia.
