Annual American Composers Update

John H. Corina

John H. Corina, University of Georgia Professor Emeritus of Music, resides in Athens, GA, where he works as a free-lance oboist and as a private oboe and composition teacher. After 24 years, he has retired as organist and choirmaster at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, in Athens. The Collinwood High School Alumni, of Cleveland, OH, elected him to their Hall of Fame in music, May 6, 1998. He played Fanfare and Procession for Organ for a wedding at St. John The Evangelist Church, Naples, FL, Apr. 25, 1998.

Premieres

On Oct. 25, 1998, William Davis, bassoon, and Jolene Davis, organ, introduced Sonatinas at St. Philip's Cathedral, in Atlanta.

Performances

In 1998, William and Jolene Davis played Sonet for Contrabassoon and Piano at the SCL Forum held at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (Mar. 27), and at the University of Georgia, in Athens (Apr. 28). Anthems heard on May 3, 1998 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church were My Shepherd Will Supply my Need, for unison voices and keyboard, with the Junior Choir; and Jubilee, Jubilate Deo, for SATB choir, bells, and organ, with the Parish Choir. On May 18, 1998, the New England Reed Trio performed Woodwind Trio at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Brookline, MA, aired over Boston's WGBH radio. The Society of Composers Region IV conference, held at Valdosta (GA) State Univ. Nov. 5, 1998, included Sonatina for Brass Trio, with Valdosta State University faculty members. In 1999, William and Jolene Davis presented Sonatinas for Bassoon and Organ at Butler University, Indianapolis, IN (Jan. 25), and at Transylvania University, Lexington, KY (Jan. 27).
