Annual American Composers Update
John Winsor
John Winsor, of Chesapeake, VA, founded the Tidewater
National Association of Composers, USA (NACUSA) chapter
and has developed Internet web sites for
NACUSA
and for the Hardwick Chamber Ensemble (HCE). His article,
"Are we Asking the Right Question?", appeared in the Winter
1998 issue of
Composer USA.
Premieres
On Oct. 31, 1998, the SCI Region III Conference, held
at Christopher Newport University included the first performance
of
Four for Three, with Winsor, clarinet; Suzanne
Schreck, violin; and Mary Tanner, cello. Funded by grants
from Meet the Composer and from the American Music Center,
the Hardwick Chamber Ensemble premiered
Decade Divertimento,
for clarinet, French horn, trombone, violin, cello, and
piano, at the Chesapeake Central Library, Jan. 15, 1998.
Performances
The Hardwick Chamber Ensemble presented
Decade Divertimento
at a NACUSA concert, Jan. 31, 1999 at Christopher Newport
University, and performed
The Norwegian Lady, for
soprano, clarinet, cello, and piano, Jan. 15, 1998 at
the Chesapeake Central Library. In 1998, John and Jeanette
Winsor played
Sonata, for clarinet and piano, at
a NACUSA Concert at the University of Richmond (Feb. 15);
at the Southeastern Composers League Festival, at the
University of North Carolina, Charlotte (Mar. 26), and
at the VFMC Convention in Willamsburg, VA (Apr. 24).
