Annual American Composers Update
Katherine Hoover
Katherine Hoover, a New York, NY resident, was a guest
of the Mid-Atlantic Flute Fair this past spring, performing
and giving a master class. She presented a concert of
works for one, two, and three flutes with harp at the
Long Island Flute Club.
Premieres
Premiered at the 1998 National Flute Association Convention,
in Phoenix, AZ were
Kyrie, for 12 flutes, commissioned
and performed by the Tucson Flute Club (Aug. 15); and
Masks, for flute and piano, commissioned by the
National Flute Association and played by Jeani Foster
and Stefanie Jacob (Aug. 16).
Performances
: The convention included a concert of Hoover's works,
including
Winter Spirits, Homage to Bartok, Summer
Night, Canyon Echos, and
Kokopeli. The Amarillo
Symphony, conducted by James Setapan, is scheduled to
perform
Eleni: A Greek Tragedy, Mar. 20, 1999.
On her spring 1998 tour of the Far East, flutist Teresa
Beaman played
Kokopeli several times. Hoover's
Dances and Variations were on the program of her
concert at the Long Island Flute Club.
