Annual American Composers Update
P. Peter Sacco
SAI Friend of the Arts P. Peter Sacco lives in Ashland,
OR. He has completed
Jazz Macabre, for alto (E-flat)
saxophone, piano, and bass viol; and
Sea Whispers,
for soprano (B-Flat) saxophone and piano. For future release,
a CD recording took place Nov. 16-17, 1998, with Dr. Paul
Freeman conducting the National Czech Symphony Orchestra
in
Piano Concerto No. 1, with Alexander Tatunov;
Meditation Nos. 2 and 3;
Contemplation for Orchestra;
Symphony No. 1 in One Movement; and
The 'Hypocrites',
with tenor soloist William Brown and the orchestra.
Premieres
On June 30, 1997, the premiere of
Introduction and
Divertimento for Bassoon and Strings occurred with
Rufus Olivier and the Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra, under
William Whitson, at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, in
Ashland. On Feb. 9, 1998, the alto saxophone version of
the same work was heard first at Southern Oregon University,
with Dr. Rhett Bender and pianist Tatunov.
Performances
Cynthia Hutton led the Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon
in
Contemplation, Nov. 6-8, 1998 in Medford and
Ashland. Lydia Forbes and the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra,
V. Válek conducting, played Sacco's
Violin Concerto
No. 1 in Prague.
