Annual American Composers Update

Sondra Clark

Sondra Clark, retired from university teaching and music criticism, works out of her home studio. Her compositions Feline and 3 + 3 + 4 won awards in the 1998 California Composers Today Contest.

Premieres

At a National Composers Association concert at the Palo Alto (CA) Cultural Center Auditorium, June 15, 1998, soprano Kathleen Nitz, clarinettist Michael Kimbell, and pianist Jeana Ogren presented Feline. 3 + 3 + 4 premiered in Los Angeles at the 1998 California Music Teachers Convention, July 5, 1998. Duo-pianists Clark and Marsha Rocklin introduced Pentatempto Waltz at the Palo Alto Music Teachers Program in Mountain View, CA, Sept. 8, 1998.

Performances

At the University of Wisconsin, Madison, soprano Emily Wallace and pianist David Collins performed Spring Again, Apr. 24, 1998. Marilyn Tanner and Bobbie Cronquist presented Summer Lake at the Evergreen Valley Methodist Church in San Jose, CA, Aug. 9, 1998. Italy's Ascoli Picena Festival included the song cycle Seasons of Love, with mezzo-soprano Helene Joseph-Weil, violinist Melina Mandozzi, cellist Giovanni Ricciardi, and pianist Andrea Dindo, July 17 and 19. On July 6, 1998, Three Scenes from New Orleans (Neil A. Kjos) was on the program of the 1998 MTAC Convention's Neil A. Kjos Music showcase, with duo-pianists Clark and Gail Lew, in Los Angeles.
